Carelink
Visual Arts Residency
Wilmington, DE

The residency with Carelink involved two specific sites. Our artist will conduct weekly groups in a studio setting with individuals with mental illness as well as conduct sessions at a group home with participants with physical disabilities. This residency will result in both participation in Celebration of Creativity as well as a formal exhibit at a New Castle county site. Artist: Jane Quartarone

Cedar Lane Elementary
Visual Arts Residency
Middletown, DE

This new residency will result in a mural in the school site’s cafeteria. Program participants are integrated special education students and the visual artist is both a teacher and art therapist. Artist: Terri Willis

Celebration of Creativity 2006
Visual Arts Exhibit
DSU, Dover, DE

A Celebration of Creativity is VSA arts of Delaware's annual art exhibition and performance. This Event celebrates the various works and final products produced by the various residency projects.

Early Intervention Preschool Program
Visual Arts, Music and Drama Residency
Dover and Hartley, DE

This very intense residency is conducted at four sites serving developmentally delayed or at-risk four year olds. Each site is receiving twenty-four weeks exposure to all three artistic disciplines. The work produced during the visual arts portion will be displayed at VSADE’s Celebration of Creativity. Artists: Terri Willis, Jackie McCabe and Stephanie Jaye

John S. Charlton School
Visual Arts and Music Residency
Camden, DE

This AIR is providing the services of both a music therapist and a visual artist to this school for children with cognitive impairments and autism. This residency will provide over 100 hours of direct contact hours. The children are working on developing basic music rhythms and group experiences, as well as simple artistic principles and personal expression. Artists: Cynthia Breese and Michele Bartley

Kent County Community School
Visual Arts Residency
Dover, DE

This longstanding residency has progressed from a music-based residency to visual arts. The students at this site are engaging, often for the first time, in the creative process while also developing significant motor skills and language. Artist: Michele Bartley

Kent Intensive Learning Center, K-5
Visual Arts Residency
Camden, DE

This intensive learning center’s residency project is focusing on the development of artistic skills as well as self-expression. Since this a pilot site the artist/art therapist will work with grades K-2 and hopefully next year the residency will expand to grades 3-5. Artist: Terri Willis

Intergenerational Project

Again, this year the residency at Modern Maturity is an intergenerational music program. Students from Charlton School are joining the Day Break program participants in music experiences over a ten-week period. Artist: Cynthia Breese

Peak Alternative School
Visual Arts & Music Residency
Dover, DE

Peak, a school for high school students with behavioral issues, is utilizing VSADE’s residency services to provide an art educator to work with students. Students involved in this residency are developing artistic skills while also exploring their creativity. Also, new for this year, a music residency will be presented at this site with a focus on song writing. Artist: Michele Bartley and Stephanie Jaye

Performing Arts Group
Drama & Music Residency
Multiple Sites

This continuing program is a theater-based residency that has lead to the development of a performing arts group. The group is currently comprised of students (ages 17-21) that are involved in the Charlton Transitional programs at DSU and Wesley College. Artists: Will Stack and Lisa Hill

Stockely Center
Visual Arts & Music Residency
Georgetown, DE

This residency project is providing the services of an art educator to the residents of the Stockley Center. The center is a facility for adults with disabilities. This project will culminate in a final exhibit at the center as well as participation in VSADE’s Celebration of Creativity exhibit. The residency will also involve the construction of clay tiles. These tiles will be permanently installed along an outside path by students from a near-by high school (Sussex Central). Artist: Carrie Geyer

Veterans Hospital - A Tribute to All
Nursing Home Care Unit
Wilmington, DE

This residency will result in the creation of a sculptural installation that details the stories of some veterans but is a tribute to all veterans and all branched of the military. A visual artist has worked with participants to visually “tell” their individuals stories and experiences both as veterans and as citizens. Artist: Jane Quartarone

Wellness Community
Visual Arts Residency
Wilmington, DE

This new initiative will focus on residency with open studio sessions as well as specific technique and medium experiences. The artist will meet twice a week with participants that are dealing with cancer treatment and recovery issues. A final culminating event will be held at the site as well as Celebration of Creativity. Artist: Jane Quartarone
